Our society glorifies the change and commitment that arises with the coming of a child, though I believe we forget how important it is to still attend to the soul and spark channels of energy for ourselves anew!
Jesse this is so true. We lose ourselves often when we have children. I love my children so deeply. I feel their pain as if it is my own and I celebrate their successes and joys wholeheartedly. At the same time, it does not escape me that the last painting I did before reconnecting with my writing and art was when I was on maternity leave with my daughter who is now 16 years old.
It is so important to connect with our partners and ourselves even during a time of early parenting. It can be so incredibly challenging. I think this is why so many marriages don’t succeed. There is no time to build the relationship or ourselves and it is far easier to disconnect from our partners and ourselves than our children.
